Faith Chepkoech Faith Chepkoech

Favorite Event: 5000m

Favorite Subject: Christian Religious Education

Graduation Date: November 2011

Faith started high school at a small school near her home. She loved running, but the administration wouldn't support her and send her to any secondary school competitions. When she told her father how important it was for her to run, he paid to send her to the zonal track and field games. When she arrived the organizers wouldn't recognize her because she didn't come with a school. Elimu Strive coach Paul Tangus saw her problem and invited her to compete as part of Menet Secondary School. Faith realized that if she wanted to run, Menet would be a great school for her, and she transferred soon after the track season was over. She graduated in 2011 thanks to a scholarship from Elimu Strive and then started training to become a professional runner. In the summer of 2013 she participated in her first international races in France and she is now officially a professional.
Dennis Korir Dennis Korir

Favorite Event: 3000m flat

Favorite Subject: Math

Graduation Date: November 2013

Dennis is a very hard worker and he is good at overcoming obstacles. He wanted to come to Menet for school even though his family lives far away. He knew that he would not be able to afford to take a car home during school holidays, but that did not stop him. Instead of paying to take a car he runs home when school lets out, a distance of almost fifteen miles. Because of his family's financial troubles, he would not have been able to stay in school if not for an Elimu Strive scholarship. Thanks to the generous supporters of Elimu Strive he graduated in November 2013.

Beatrice Chepkirui Beatrice Chepkirui

Favorite Event: 10000m

Favorite Subject: History

Graduation Date: November 2013

Beatrice is an inspiration to all the runners in the club. As a first year student she was last in the school over 5000m. Instead of letting her poor performance discourage her, she used it to motivate her. She trained every day, even when she was at home and didn't have any classmates around to push her. Her hard work paid off. As a second year student she not only became the best 5000m runner in the school, she became one of the best in the province. At the Rift Valley Province cross country competition she placed 17th. Given that the Rift Valley is the home of the fastest runners in the world, she can say she is a world-class runner now! The other members of Elimu Strive use her improvement to motivate themselves each day during practice.
